Smith Sawmill Service, LLC is hiring multiple fulltime, entry level Metal Finisher workers for metal grinding and polishing metal to be conducted at its principal worksite located at 181 County Road 4763, Timpson, Texas. Metal Finisher jobs are entry level positions involving grinding or polishing metal. Each Metal Finisher will be trained and ultimately responsible for learning and performing daily job duties and responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, arriving at work reasonably before shift begins and be able to remain at work with minimum interruptions and/or absences and be able to work independently after a reasonable period of training. Each Metal Finisher must be able to learn and demonstrate effective skills in inspecting work pieces and removing imperfections and/or nonconforming features from work pieces by filing, grinding and/or polishing by manual application and/or using power tools in a manner that produces a finished/ready to use metal product in the sawmill industry. Each Metal Finisher worker must be able to perform work with high efficiency time management, strong attention to detail, identifying defects, use precision measuring tools, especially with small tolerances (+/-.001). Each Metal Finisher will be required to measure, examine, and test completed work pieces and products for defects. Each Metal Finisher will be required to demonstrate and apply metric and standard measuring units, file, grind, polish and adjust metal to remove imperfections to meet production standards. Each Metal Finisher will be required to have basic understanding of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing numbers. Each Metal Finisher will be required to compute and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of work pieces. Applicant must be able to read and write in the English language. Each Metal Finisher will be required to assist production personnel by helping identify work piece defects and reporting reoccurring abnormal work piece defects and other tasks. Each Metal Finisher will be required to produce and maintain production records, such as frequency of noncorrectable defects on work pieces, abnormal defects and average weekly work piece counts.
Metal Finisher positions involves standing, squatting, lifting, and exerting pressure consistent with metal working production environment (at least 40 lbs with regularity and up to 100 lbs occasionally). Metal Finisher positions involve considerable use of arms, hands and fingers for positioning, holding, manipulating and moving tools and metal pieces while controlling movements to avoid defect caused by vibration and/or tool movement. Metal Finisher positions will ultimately be required to demonstrate basic hand tool, mechanical knowledge and physical ability to use the hands and arms in a steady fashion while moving tools against work pieces so as to achieve the desired shape and/or features in conformance with production specifications. Metal Finisher positions involve exposure to regular and continuous loud noises from machines, grinders and other metal-on-metal fabrication activities. Each Metal Finisher will be required to align, secure, and adjust cutting tools and work pieces. Each Metal Finisher will be required to turn, mill, drill, shape, and grind machine parts to specifications, including smoothing the surfaces of parts or products when production specifications call for smooth surfaces. Metal Finisher positions require work to be performed in machine shops and rooms consisting of industrial grade metal buildings. Metal Finisher positions do not supervise other positions.
Each worker is provided and required to wear ear and eye protection at all times. Each employee is required to receive safety training prior to commencement of work. Each worker is required to engage in work activities in a safe manner consistent with work place safety trainings, rules and regulations. Applicants must be willing to receive training and have a reasonable opportunity to learn the skills needed to perform job duties efficiently and effectively. The conditions and job duties are normal for the sawmill service industry and requires work to be performed in a drug free, tobacco free and alcohol free work place.
Applicants must clear background and criminal history checks by not having any felony convictions or convictions for any moral turpitude crimes, such as theft, embezzlement, robbery, etc. Applicants must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement due to work involving access to proprietary designs and information.
All work will be performed at 181 County Road 4763, Timpson, Texas, 75975. No travel required for performing job duties. Positions are for fulltime dayshift work, Monday through Friday beginning 7:00 a.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m., with lunch break.
The wage for a Metal Finisher position is $21,840.00 minimum annual wage ($10.50 / hour at a minimum 40 hours per week) with overtime variable, which is a wage rate that is equal to or exceeds the prevailing waged entered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Prevailing Wage Determination issued on Form ETA-9141.
